What Sentinellis can't do
Every product has gaps. Pretending otherwise is how trust gets destroyed. Here's an honest accounting of where Sentinellis falls short today, and how to work around each one.
Private companies
Yahoo Finance only covers public companies. Private companies (most startups, SMBs, family businesses) return either no data or stale legal-entity stubs. Coverage of private entities is on the B2B roadmap via OpenCorporates and national registries, but not live yet.
Workaround
Use Sentinellis for public-company research. For private-company due diligence, check OpenCorporates, Crunchbase, or local registries directly.
Non-US / emerging markets
US-listed companies have the deepest coverage. EU and UK majors (LVMH, ASML, Siemens) work well. Smaller Romanian, Polish, or other emerging-market tickers often return partial financials. News coverage is also thinner outside major English-language markets.
Workaround
Sentinellis flags missing data points explicitly. The confidence score will drop on thin coverage so you know to weigh the report accordingly.
News lag (24-hour cache + 7-day window)
Reports cache for 24 hours — if a major news event breaks after the cache was warmed, the report won't reflect it until the cache expires or a new analysis is run. Our news pipeline only looks at the last 7 days, so older context is intentionally excluded.
Workaround
If a fresh report is critical and a cache may be stale, contact us — admins can clear individual cache entries on request.
AI variance across runs
The synthesis step uses Claude — a non-deterministic LLM. Two runs of the same company on the same data may produce slightly different phrasing, different risk emphasis, or marginally different confidence scores. We constrain output with a strict JSON schema and inline citation requirements, but variance is real.
Workaround
Treat narrative findings (risks, opportunities, summary) as one informed analysis, not the only one. Cross-check material claims against the inline citations and primary sources.
Not financial advice
Sentinellis is an information-only platform. We aggregate public data, compute standard financial metrics, and summarize them in plain English. We do not provide personalized investment advice, price targets, buy/sell/hold recommendations, or fiduciary services. The synthesis prompt explicitly blocks the AI from generating those.
Workaround
Use reports as one input alongside your own research. For investment decisions, consult a licensed financial advisor in your jurisdiction.
Source data we don't control
When Yahoo Finance returns partial data (HTTP 500 on individual fields, missing balance sheet entries), our financial calculations degrade gracefully — but the resulting report won't be as rich. NewsData.io and Google News also have their own coverage gaps and freshness limits.
Workaround
We monitor upstream provider health via Sentry. When a known issue affects a class of companies, we pause cache writes and serve a flag. If you see persistent gaps for a specific ticker, email us.
